Boiler Implosion Study
For CSAPR and Utility MACT Compliance
CSAPR and Utility MACT compliance mandates go into effect soon. US utilities face unprecedented challenges to retire or upgrade much of their existing coal generating capacity. TRAX is ready today with our experience and high-fidelity dynamic transient modeling to ensure final plant performance meets design projections, prior to construction. Download a PDF
TRAX Accurately Predicts Plant Upgrade Performance Before Buildout.
TRAX supplies validated, dynamic process and control simulations of specific power plant units, which help utilities meet CSAPR and Utility MACT requirements. TRAX is also a world leader in Boiler Implosion Studies for Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) additions. Only a TRAX dynamic, plant-specific model can provide an accurate evaluation of new emissions control systems for your unit. Steady-state assessments cannot do this.
Using plant-specific dynamic models, our experienced engineers can:
- Accurately model the addition of baghouses, fans, and virtually all new equipment including: SCR, FGD, ESP, sorbent injection, CCS, CAES, and IGCC
- Forecast and evaluate potential risks to furnace and plant through comprehensive, dynamic Furnace Draft / Boiler Implosion studies
- Predict and validate plant performance that meets CSAPR and Utility MACT mandates
- Test and evaluate alternative component and controls configurations
- Demonstrate effects of new ducting for the FGD addition
- How to minimize parasitic load of the carbon capture island
- Show the true efficiency of a possible solar-array addition to your fossil plant
- Identify and recommend process or controls mitigatory measures (98% of all cases require changes)
- Predict positive and negative component pressures with equipment additions
- Evaluate plant behavior during Master Fuel or Fan Trips
- Compare open, closed and active bypass systems
- Determine the potential for fan stalls
- Design and test process control strategies
- Determine NFPA compliance
TRAX's Expert Capabilities
Having modeled over 200 power plants in Asia, Europe, and North America, our experienced engineers and former power plant operators understand the critical complexities of performing accurate power plant upgrade studies. Our 25 years of experience in the modeling and simulation arena make us a leader in fossil plant Engineering Analysis.
High-Fidelity Transient Analysis
TRAX's proprietary ProTRAX software is able to accurately model the entire plant including the air/gas and steam process sides. We use only ProTRAX first-principles-based software that behaves just like the real plant equipment even under transient event conditions. TRAX dynamic models are plant specific. Our mitigation strategies can help keep furnace draft pressure excursions caused by new CSAPR and Utility MACT mandated equipment within acceptable structural limits.
Controls Strategy Changes
Even a small change in controls can have a significant impact on pressure response. TRAX can optimize your AQCS and plant controls for safe operation and efficiency as well as minimize the risk of furnace implosion. TRAX can also help ensure your plant controls are NFPA-85 compliant with an in-plant controls review. TRAX can perform this all as part of a single study.
TRAX Experience
TRAX has the right tools, experience, and capabilities to model your plant with dynamic, first-principles-based utilities. Our power engineers and former plant operators have developed and refined these tools over 25 years and continue to serve the power generation industry with world-class, dynamic, engineering analysis solutions.
