Simulation Software

The ProTRAX Power Plant Simulation software system is designed to enable engineers to develop high-performance, high-fidelity process and control models. The resulting models are powerful analytic tools with a wide range of applications. Built to meet the high-fidelity requirements of engineering analysis, the quality and robustness of the ProTRAX system make it the best choice for training simulators.

ProTRAX Cloud

Coming Soon

Today domestic and international power generating utilities face unprecedented challenges meeting global energy demands. Developing nations must quickly create reliable energy generation from coal and natural gas resources plus train a new workforce. In America, our aging plants operate in an environment needing new, clean technologies but also confront increased pressure to lower economic cost while accelerating training of a next-generation workforce.

TRAX is developing a solution to these conflicting issues. While TRAX traditional training simulators have been produced for over two decades, they have not employed emerging eLearning technology. TRAX plans to commercialize a new cloud-based technology in 2012 that deploys physics-based, real-time power plant simulations to personal computers and wireless mobile devices.

From our data center in Lynchburg, Virginia, racks of simulation nodes will accommodate many concurrent remote connections by utility clients, community colleges, universities and individuals to receive the same high quality simulation training TRAX has provided for 25 years. With ProTRAX Cloud, only a modern web browser and broadband will be needed to access the most powerful energy training models and power plant simulations available.

Distance learning reduces labor and eliminates travel and living costs to utilities and end users. Developing and deploying ProTRAX Cloud services for the global energy industry will provide a solution for today’s rapidly changing energy workforce.

ProTRAX Suite

TRAX’s integrated simulator software suite includes our graphical model builder, simulator run time executive, translators, emulators, and interfaces. Because our simulation software has become an industry standard for both engineering analyses and training simulations, ProTRAX models have a tremendous user base with hundreds of man-years of independent verification and validation.

Highest Fidelity

ProTRAX is comprised of an extensive library of components, or modules, that are based upon first principles mass and energy relations. Each simulator is designed to the exact configuration of the plant being simulated, and the individual components of a model are tailored to the specific plant, resulting in a high-fidelity simulator that truly represents the plant operation.

Modularity

Our ProTRAX simulation software is modular at several levels:

  • The process module library is based on physical components in a plant rather than thermodynamic nodes.
  • Controls can be developed in the familiar ISA/SAMA block form, and control systems are divided into independent models representing each separate function of the actual plant controls.
  • Process subsystems are divided into independent models, such as boiler, turbine cycle, and electrical models, so they can be developed and tested separately.
  • Functions such as analyses, instructor operations, and operator functions can run on separate computers to reflect the actual plant operation.
  • ProTRAX supports interfaces with popular DCS Virtual Hosts. Controls emulation is also supported with our extensive library of DCS and PLC emulator products.

Full Range Operation

Each ProTRAX module and the system as a whole can be applied over the entire plant load range, from zero flow under cold start conditions to design conditions. Special features provide maximum accuracy in all operating regimes.
